Unilorin staff donates monkey to Zoo
A staff of the University of Ilorin, Health Services, Mr Malik Raufu, has donated a live adult male Patas Monkey to the university zoo.
The school authorities made this known in a memo sent to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem by an Environmental Toxicologist, Prof. Sulaiman Ambali and made available to newsmen in Ilorin on Monday.
The authorities said that the animal was presented to the zoo on Feb. 2, saying that the management of the zoo had since appreciated the kind gesture with a letter of appreciation to the donor.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Patas Monkey, also known as the Wadi Monkey or Hussar Monkey, is a ground-dwelling monkey distributed over semi-arid areas of West Africa and East Africa.
NAN reports that it is the only specie classified in the genus Erythrocebus.
Patas Monkey is a large sized specie of old world Monkey, found inhabiting in the open grasslands of Central Africa. (NAN)
