Manchester United lurk as Barcelona forced to wait on new Umtiti deal


The defender is set to be offered a new deal, but the Catalans' tactical delay could offer the Red Devils a chance to steal in
Barcelona have agreed terms with Samuel Umtiti over a new long-term contract, but the Catalans’ need to delay completion of the deal leaves the door open for Manchester United to make an audacious move.
The French defender is already tied to the Blaugrana until 2021 but his current terms include a €60 million buyout clause which the club are keen to raise as part of a new deal.
And while the two sides have come to an agreement over fresh terms, Barcelona have been forced to hold off completing the deal until July 1 due to the constraints of UEFA's Financial Fair Play (FFP) laws.
Having splashed out a club-record €160m on the signing of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool in January, Barca are not in a position to pay out on Umtiti’s new deal this season without breaking the artificial ceiling put in place by FFP.
As a result, they have come to a gentlemen’s agreement with Umtiti’s representatives that will see the already-negotiated terms being signed off on the first day of the 2018-19 financial season.
The same tactic was used by the leaders of La Liga in 2016 when agreeing a new contract with then-striker Neymar in January of that year ahead of the official signing of the deal the following July.
However, employing such an approach with Umtiti leaves Barca open to being usurped in the next four months as rival clubs have the opportunity to snap up the 24-year-old France international for €60m under the terms of his existing contract.
And that could leave the door open for United, who are thought to be on the lookout for defensive additions this summer.

Woman uses four-year-old baby to pay N100 debt

The Ebonyi state government has commenced investigation into how a mother used her four-year-old daughter to offset a debt of N100. The woman, Veronica Igwe, according to the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Ministry, was been invited for questioning and later handed over to the police. She allegedly gave Uloma, her daughter, to Josephine Nwali after she could not pay a debt of N100. The transaction reportedly took place at the Abakaliki Rice Mill. Ms. Igwe told officials of the ministry that she took the decision to hand Uloma to Ms. Nwali when the pressure from the woman was becoming unbearable. When Ms. Igwe offered her daughter to Ms. Nwali in place of the money, she accepted. The creditor then took Uloma to her house at CAS Campus, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, where she had been for nine months before officials of the ministry got wind of the incident and went after her. APC reacts to Melaye’s defection to PDP DEBO'S BLOG -  The Spokesman for the All Progressive Congress (APC) Bolaji Abdullahi, has revealed that Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West has not informed the party about his defection. Abdullahi however stated that the party respects “his right of association” and wished him “Goodluck”. “Well, to the best of my knowledge he did not inform the party. I don’t want to speculate on the reason for his decision. “We would wish Senator Dino Melaye had stayed to allow the ongoing reconciliation efforts to progress, but we respect his right of association and wish him goodluck. “I am also aware that for it to qualify as defection he has to formally notify the Senate President, which as far as I know, he has not done,” he said.
