OFFICIAL: Premier League to introduce winter break from February 2020

Premier League clubs will have a winter break in February from the 2019-20 season. The break will be staggered across two weeks, with five matches on the first weekend and five the following weekend. The FA Cup fifth round will be moved to midweek to accommodate the break, with replays being scrapped at that stage. The Football Association described it as "a significant moment for English football" that "will greatly benefit club and country". "It's no secret that we have a very congested fixture calendar and over recent years we have been working with the whole game to find a solution," said FA chief executive Martin Glenn. "As we head into summer international tournaments in the future we are sure that this mid-season break will prove to be a valuable addition for our players." Manchester United announce they have agreed a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk for Brazilian midfielder Fred for reported £52m. Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on March 5, 1993, Fred spent time in the youth setups of Atletico Mineiro and Porto Alegre prior to making the switch to Internacional in 2010. It was at Internacional where he made his first steps in senior football, with some encouraging performances eventually earning him a transfer to Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013. In the ensuing period, Fred has enjoyed much success, winning three league titles and three Ukranian cups, while he has also become increasingly involved with the Brazil national team, for whom he now has earned 8 caps. The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reacted to the signing of the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ bill by President Muhammadu Buhari. Fayose said by signing the bill, Buhari should remind himself that he was “Too Old To Run,” hence he should vacate the office of the President for the youths. Trump’s trade policy threatens 2.6m jobs

America’s the Chamber of Commerce has predicted that President Donald Trump’s strict stance on trade could put 2.6 million jobs at risk. Mr. Tom Donohue, President of the business organization of the Chamber, issued the forecast in a memo to the board of directors. The memo, citing outside studies, adds the possible job losses from tariffs both threatened and enacted by the administration, plus a possible US withdrawal from NAFTA, the trade agreement with Canada and Mexico. A NAFTA withdrawal would kill as many as 1.8 million American jobs in the first year, the memo warned. In addition, tariffs against China could cost 134,000 US jobs, steel and aluminum tariffs could cost 470,000 jobs, and tariffs on autos and auto parts could cost 157,000 jobs, Donohue warned. He sent the memo on the same day the administration said it would impose steep tariffs on steel and aluminum from three of America’s biggest trading partners — Canada, Mexico and the European Union. Five soldiers gunned down in fresh Borno attack

Five soldiers lost their lives in an ambush by Boko Haram at Pridang– Bitta in Gwoza local government area of Borno state. Texas Chukwu, director, army public relations, confirmed the tragic incident, saying it happened on Thursday. In a statement, Chukwu said the insurgents engaged troops of 271 task force battalion deployed in Operation Lafiya Dole in a gun battle. “While on clearance operation along Pridang – Bitta in Gwoza local government area of Borno dtate, fought through an ambush staged by elements of Boko Haram Terrorists,” the statement read. “In the firefight that ensued, the gallant troops fought through the ambush, they neutralized several Boko Haram Terrorists, while others fled with gunshot wounds. “The remains of the deceased personnel have been promptly evacuated to 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital.” Share your views in the comment section below.

APC reacts to Melaye’s defection to PDP DEBO'S BLOG -  The Spokesman for the All Progressive Congress (APC) Bolaji Abdullahi, has revealed that Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West has not informed the party about his defection.
