OFFICIAL: Premier League to introduce winter break from February 2020

Premier League clubs will have a winter break in February from the 2019-20 season. The break will be staggered across two weeks, with five matches on the first weekend and five the following weekend. The FA Cup fifth round will be moved to midweek to accommodate the break, with replays being scrapped at that stage. The Football Association described it as "a significant moment for English football" that "will greatly benefit club and country". "It's no secret that we have a very congested fixture calendar and over recent years we have been working with the whole game to find a solution," said FA chief executive Martin Glenn. "As we head into summer international tournaments in the future we are sure that this mid-season break will prove to be a valuable addition for our players." Manchester United announce they have agreed a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk for Brazilian midfielder Fred for reported £52m. Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on March 5, 1993, Fred spent time in the youth setups of Atletico Mineiro and Porto Alegre prior to making the switch to Internacional in 2010. It was at Internacional where he made his first steps in senior football, with some encouraging performances eventually earning him a transfer to Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013. In the ensuing period, Fred has enjoyed much success, winning three league titles and three Ukranian cups, while he has also become increasingly involved with the Brazil national team, for whom he now has earned 8 caps. The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reacted to the signing of the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ bill by President Muhammadu Buhari. Fayose said by signing the bill, Buhari should remind himself that he was “Too Old To Run,” hence he should vacate the office of the President for the youths.
